SWINGS
Right Hand vs. Left Hand: In working with clients from many
different areas of the country we have found considerable variation
in the way that swing directions are described. Therefore, it is extremely
important that any door order conforms to the swing directions that
we recognize. You may refer to our diagram when designating swing directions
Right Hand or Left Hand as well as Right Hand Active, or Left Hand
active on pairs with astragals. The diagram is a “birds eye view” of
the door unit swings just as you would see in an architectural drawing
of a floor plan. We do not differentiate between an outswing application
such as a closet, or an inswing application such as a typical interior
bedroom door. It is purely the direction or the door swing ie. hinged
and swinging toward the Right or hinged and swinging toward the Left.
Prehung Pairs: Single Active Pairs with T-astragals vs. Double Active
Pairs with catches: Pairs of doors may be ordered either single active
t-astragals or double active with catches depending on the application.
T-Astragals: Most Exterior Pairs or Inteior pairs with privacy considerations
will be pre-hung with a T-astragal and flushbolts so that one door
is secured to the jamb by flushbolts, and one door is the active swing
door. Both doors are hinged and may be opened but the active swing
door opens first and is used predominantly. This allows for locking
or privacy hardware as well as weatherstripping for exterior use. All
pairs with T-astragals require an active swing designation, either
Right Hand Active or Left Hand Active.

Roller Catches: Pairs without privacy considerations such as Interior
closet pairs, Exterior gate pairs will be prehung so that both doors
are active at the same time. Closet pairs typically are hung with roller
catches or surface mounted bolts. Exterior Gate will typicall be secures
with a surface mount cane bolt. It is not necessary to designate active
swing for these types of pairs.
