KNOTTY PINE: Only
select mills meet our quality requirements for #2 Common and better
Sugar Pine. This #2 Sugar Pine has random spaced tight knots of various
sizes and carefully controlled moisture content. Knotty Pine is the
traditional wood for doors in Northern New Mexico and is the best choice
for "rustic" pine and distressed doors.
SELECT PINE: "D
Select" and better grade Sugar Pine is produced from the clear
cuttings of larger and older growth trees. Market forces in recent years
have resulted in the premium pricing of select grades of Pine and still
allows a few small tight knots. Select Pine may be chosen for a more
finished appearance.
KNOTTY ALDER:
Alder is a competitively priced hardwood from the Pacific Northwest with
many of the grain characteristics of more expensive fruitwoods such
as Walnut, Maple, and Cherry. Our Knotty Alder doors are made from "Premium
Frame" and "Character" grades which allow both black
and light colored knots with open checks. Knotty Alder's warm color
and dramatic character make it an appealing alternative to Knotty Pine
for Rustic doors.
SELECT ALDER: "Select
and Better Grade" Alder is an ideal alternative for a clear grained
hardwood door with only a few small tight knots allowed. Alder has an
appealing warm tone in a natural finish and may be finished to look similar
to the more expensive hard- woods such as Walnut and Cherry. As with
Select Pine, it has become more difficult in recent years to obtain solid
wood that is nearly clear of knots on both sides. Consequently, our
Select Alder doors now may have either laminated or engineered stiles
as well as solid wood.
WORMY MAPLE: A
unique select grade of soft Maple with minimal knots and naturally occurring
worm holes as well as distinctive color variations. It is an exciting
choice for rustic applications where a character wood is desired and
works well with a variety of stains.
TRADITIONAL HARDWOODS & SOFTWOODS: Solid
wood doors are becoming rarer every year as the mass production door
industry offers only doors that are produced with veneers. Spanish
Pueblo Doors continues to offer solid wood doors in a variety of woods
by custom order. African Mahogany, Red Oak, Cherry, Spanish
Cedar and Fir are some of the more common woods we have
worked in with the stability necessary for doors. As with Select
Pine and Select Alder, our hardwood and softwood doors may have either
laminated or engineered door stiles.
